Maths undergraduate projects

Print resources

Print journals

Much of our journals are now available online. However we do still have some print journals. These are located on Level 4 of the Central Library.

Key titles useful for the first year projects include:

•American Mathematical Monthly
•The American Statistician
•Mathematics Magazine
•Mathematical Gazette
•Scientific American
•New Scientist
•Physics Today

Books

We have an outstanding research collection of books.  At least one copy of all titles that have been recommended by your supervisor for your topic can be found in the Core Text collection in the Central Library.  These are available on overnight loan only for the duration of the projects period.  This means that you must issue them to yourself on the self issue machines in the Core Text room, and return them by 11am the next day. Books which are returned late will incur a fine – see this page for more information.

Maths  titles can be found on Level 2 of the Central Library, and Physics titles are split across Levels 2 and 4.  As a rule, maths books start with the number 51 and physics books start with the number 53.

Please do check the library catalogue first though: there are two shelf number systems in place at present,  so books could be located in more than one place.

How do I find a book or a print journal?

To work out what we have in print, and where to find it, search the library catalogue

Tutorial on searching the library catalogue

How do I physically locate the item?

If the item is a journal it will be in A-Z order on the shelves.  If the item is a book it will be in shelf mark order.

Library shelf marks for books – note these are a guide only.
